FAQ's :: Mastercam X4 Installation

Mastercam

X4 Installation & Set up

A couple of decisions must be made before beginning the installation of X4 .

  1. Are you going to run Mastercam as a Side by Side or Stand alone?
  2. Do you have all of your needed files backed up?
  3. Are you comfortable or able to use the Web installed or would you prefer to wait for the DVD?
  4. Click Here to view a printable version
  5. Click Here for instructions on Updating your X3 Post to X4

We generally recommend running a stand alone version; we have found this tends to negate many Windows issues that can arise from multiple versions of the same software.

Make sure all of your important files are back up in a safe place. These may include config files, toolbars, keymapping, Machine and Control Definitions, Post Processors, Operation defaults and files, tool libraries. You may have others and this list may not be complete.

Some customers are not allowed by their IT/MIS Department to install the web versions and may only install from the actual discs, these will be going out in several weeks time. If you are unsure, you might want to check with your IT/MIS Department before doing so.

X4 Installation Dialog

All of your installation Options and Installation Directory will be set from this dialog, double check it as once set, your installation will begin.  If you have made errors you may have to uninstall and reinstall to correct them.  If you choose to run a side by side installation and use the Migration option on your settings, we suggest you double check your paths in the X4 Config file just to verify all of your directory paths are proper and correct.
